Original black-and-white print, a drypoint, by Ernest E. Abbott. The print shows a picturesque Australian scene of a river lined with the titular gum trees. Artist's pencil inscription and signature below the printed area: "River Gums, A. 79, Ernest E. Abbott." No date, circa 1920s-1939. Print with margins: 12 1/4" x 7 3/4." Printed area: "11 1/4" x 6 1/4." Print is virtually pristine and intact except for age toning on front and age toning and offsetting on back. A Fine copy. Ernest E. Abbott (1888-1973) was an English-Australian artist and art teacher who specialized in printmaking and painting. Abbott was born in England and later settled in Australia. In 1917, he opened a studio in Melbourne. He is perhaps best-known for his intaglio prints and watercolor paintings depicting scenes in Australia, England, and Egypt. Abbott's artist career came to a close in 1939 when he converted his studio into a machine shop. Drypoint is a form of intaglio printmaking that is practically identical to engraving except for the use of tools and slight nuance in technique.. Print. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine.
