The story that swirls around some hippies living in Massachusetts, a song about the protest against the draft, the war in Vietnam, and Thanksgiving. "Alice" was named for the restaurant owner Alice Mae Brock-- she and husband Ray Brock lived in a former church in Great Barrington, MA where the eponymous song's Thanksgiving dinners were actually held. Alice & Ray worked at a nearby private academy, Stockbridge School, a music and art-oriented school, from which Guthrie had graduated. In 1969, Random House published 'Alice's Restaurant Cookbook'-- a mix of recipes and hippie wisdom, photos of Alice Brock & Arlo Guthrie, and publicity stills from the movie of the same name. With an original tear-out record, in back of book, Brock and Guthrie banter on two tracks called "Italian-Type Meatballs" and "My Gramma's Beet Jam". Overall, in excellent collectible condition-- clean, bright, square and tight-- the tipped-in recording is fine.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good.
