Original black-and-white steel engraving on a beige sheet of paper. Engraving shows a bust portrait of Henry W. Bellows facing slightly to the left. No date, circa 1880s-1890s. Engraved area measures about 3 1/2" x 5." Sheet measures about 5 1/4" x 9." Engraving is very clean and intact except for light to moderate age toning and a small faint dampstain limited to lower-left corner on front. A Very Good copy. Henry W. Bellows (1814-1882) was an American clergyman famous for his oratory and lyceum. He was the founder and first and only President of the United States Sanitary Commission between 1861 and 1878. His most famous work was Unconditional Loyalty (1863) which was widely read during the Civil War and was very pro-Union. The following is printed under Bellows's portrait: "H. W.
