Pencilled owner name+address and bookseller's price (15/-) along top edge of front pastedown and ffe respectively.Uncommon example with a dw/dj (albeit fragile),in a book of its age and given the period of production,i.e. 1942- 1947 - with wartime paper-rationing,and the poor quality of paper generally used and survival rates of air-raids on domestic and commercial properties i.e publishers+ printers.Any dw/dj would have been of substandard quality and prone to subsequent disintegration (as attested to in this example - very thin,brittle and fragile) and usually discarded,or be reverse printed - possibly coming from an entirely different book/title. Original,but brittle,thin paper,colour pictorial illustrated dw/dj with edge wear,folds and creases,rubbing,chipping with some loss, several small closed tears along top+bottom edges,some splits along folds - i.e the top corners,dw/dj flaps; bottom corners with closed tears and some minimal loss ocCuring,some further small losses to both head+foot and a couple of other spots of spine/backstrip of dw/dj - dw/dj overall approx 98% present.Both panels of dw/dj with multiple creases of varying lengths and contemporary but amateurish internal,gummed paper repairs to some tears but not all - to front panel only.Despite damage to dw/dj.Publisher's bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,original,pale green cloth boards with bright,crisp,blocked gilt letters to front board and spine/backstrip,with concomitant spots to spine very minimally sunned/faded from missing portions of dw/dj.Immaculate green+white artwork by Donia Nachshen,woodland scene with ramblers and woodland flora+fauna,illustrated endpapers. Top edges coloured green,and/but with original(?) mottling,fore-edge slightly toned with minimal foxing/spotting and thumbing; contents exceptionally bright,crisp,clean,solid and sound - virtually pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - appears unread - apart from my own collation. UK,Qrto HB+dw/dj,reprinted edn,5-255pp [paginated] includes contents list/table,b/w line illustrated,year's month-by-month with 2 Walks stories,poems,things to do,Do you know these flowers,birds,further poems,this tree? sections and 6 nature stories - all/each with profuse b/w line illustrations throughout that text,an alphabetical list/table of illustrations,and 16 full-page,full colour illustrations/plates by Noel Hopking interspersed throughout the book.A really exceptional example with only the dw/dj detracting from it's overall appearance and grade. A highly collected and prolific children's book illustrator,and a collectable item in Blyton's usual style and will be an important and welcome addition to the BLYTON canon.
