Joseph Abbey lived in England from the age of three.Brother of Salomon Van Abbe.Joseph Abbey worked,mainly in black and white,for newspapers,magazines, children's books and annuals.His most successful subjects were animals,birds and plants.He was editor of Chums' during the 1930s and exhibited flower paintings at several London galleries, including the Royal Academy.He illustrated two other Blyton titles from this series - the first book of the series 'The Mystery of the Burnt Cottage' (1943) and 'The Mystery of the Hidden House' the 6th.
