Uncommon example with a dw/dj in a book of its age and given the period of production,i.e. 1942-1947 - with wartime paper-rationing,and the poor quality of paper generally used and survival rates of air-raids on domestic and commercial properties i.e publishers+printers. Any dw/dj would have been of substandard quality and fragility and be prone to subsequent disintegration - as this example can testify - and usually discarded,or be reverse printed - possibly coming from an entirely different book/ title.
Once again we meet the characters we all know so well - Jack and Lucy-Ann,Philip,Dinah,and Bill Smugs, always ready to help in time of trouble; and of course,Kiki, the parrot, who, with her ridiculous chatter,is an essential part of the story.
This time the children literally drop from the skies into a strange and thrilling adventure.A lonely and deserted valley - half-ruined houses - towering mountains - caves and underground passages - treasure! But what treasure? and where is it hidden? Who is after it? This is the riddle the children set themselves to solve, and in the solving they have many hair-raising adventures, and narrow escapes.
An important and welcome addition to the Enid Blyton adventure story canon for all Blyton fiction collectors/officianados.
