UK,slim 8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn.NFINE/FINE-. No owner inscrptn, but price-clip to dw/dj, but there is in situ, partial remains of a removed publisher's own, original square, adhesive white paper price-label, minimally affecting the paper beneath, towards foot of dw/djs' front, inner flap's corner. The residue of it has also left a 'ghost' corresponding spot to ffe.Bright, crisp, clean, glossy laminated, pale pinkish background with colour pictorial artwork by Peggy Fortnum, illustrated upper panel and black lettering,a b/w line illustrated publisher's advert to rear panel; both with negligible shelf-wear and creasing to edges and corners - but a tiny, tiny nick/ closed tear to dw/djs' upper panel towards it's lower edge and reciprocal creasing present.Spine/backstrip imperceptably darkened but not sunned/faded,with black lettering, number 10 towards foot and just above a blue vertical lozenge with black line illus of Paddington within it, minisculely bumped with reciprocal creasing to both head+foot of same.Top+ fore-edges both slightly aged/toned,but generally clean; contents fox-free,bright, tight and near pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to body of text/book - an unread example? Bright, crisp, clean, textured,sharp-cornered,salmon/(rose pink?) paper-covered bds with bright, crisp, stamped silver gilt letters to spine /backstrip and near immaculate plain white eps.The only fault to them (eps) is offset foxing from dw/djs' inner flaps to both pastedowns and the aforementioned 'ghost to ffe,the rear free endpaper unaffected. UK,slim 8vo HB+dw/dj,7-124pp [paginated] includes 7 chapters, profuse b/w line
illus by Peggy Fortnum,as either chapter head+tail pieces or part-page illustrations within the text, plus [unpaginated] b/w Paddington Bear vignetted half-title page, similar title-page,and a contents list/table,and 4pp blanks at rear. The first page of the blanks has a b/w line illus of Paddington to it's lower,right-hand corner, the others are blank as described.Despite listed minor faults,it is another exceptional example - definitely one of the better examples I've handled and seen - of the rarest of the Paddington novels in this series.
The 10th PB novel, which finds him in excellent form - and is an occasion for celebration, and indeed this very famous bear has found a variety of ways to prove that Paddington is still on top.
In this book Paddington does a lot of things he's never done before: he goes to school (and how has he managed to avoid it up till now?) and he goes to court; he buys a body-building outfit and tries to sell a vacuum cleaner; he makes spectacularly brave attempts at rugby and water-skiing; and finally he introduces a surprise guest from Darkest Peru!
All these adventures are delightfully illustrated by Peggy Fortnum.
