First USA edition. This is the author's first book. The boards are rubbed and extremely edge worn, with a small chip out of the bottom corner of the front board. The top and bottom edges of the spine are also chipped and worn. The gold gilt on the spine and the binding are not affected by this. The dust jacket has not fared any better; it is extremely rubbed, marked and worn, with many holes and chips out of it from insect damage. There is a large chip out of the spine which cuts out half of the publisher's name. Despite the damage done to it, it is intact and for the most part legible. Internally, the pages are unmarked, whole and complete. Tightly bound and preserved in cellophane. JV. Book Condition: Fair. Binding: Hardcover.
