8vo. Pamphlet, 11 folded sheets, four pages per sheet, for a total of 44 pages, unbound, 1892, some pages bright, with dark text, others toned with text somewhat faded. This is an exceptionally scarce / rare Cherokee language imprint most likely from Vinita, Indian Territory, which was later Oklahoma. The Reverend Chamberlin went to Pheasant Hill mission, in what is now Craig County, Oklahoma, in 1868, several years before Vinita came into existence. He printed his own translations of religious matter on a crude hand-press and distributed them among the Native Americans as part of his missionary work for the Presbyterian Church. The Chieftain Newspaper began around 1882. Item is not referenced in Hargrett, and apparently was never issued.. Book. Book Condition: VG.
