Several preliminary and concluding leaves lightly spotted. Former owner name neatly inked to the head of the front free endpaper, and with some occasional pencilled marginal notes and ticks. A very good copy in tanned, nicked and soiled price-clipped dust wrapper, with just a little loss from the head of the spine panel. The author's last book, Marxist literary criticism quickly penned in 1935 at a rate of c.5,000 words a day. Caudwell (the pseudonym of Christopher St. John Sprigg), was killed in action just prior to publication whilst guarding the retreat of his comrades in the British Battalion of the International Brigade during the Spanish Civil War..
