Seventh of a series of stories, articles, poems, including Stella, Earth or Heaven, The Reading Magdalen, the Bee and the Fly, California, Stephano the Albanian, the Hero of the Coliseum, and more. All plates present, including the one most often torn out by parents or religious persons, The Reading Magdalen (young topless woman reading book). Condition: Binding has heavy wear (abrasions, rubbing, discoloration marks, shelf wear, short tears, and two corners showing a tad). Appears to have had new endpapers (with small old book dealer sticker on first pastedown endpaper). Several preliminaries detached and laid in (presentation page, plate, etc.). Scattered age toning, foxing, offsetting toning (mostly illustrations), damp spots, signs of old insect marks, etc., more predominate at illustrations and tissue overlays. However, the pages are still in above average condition and very readable. Good condition overall, remarkable for this over 168 years-old-book. Certainly collectible.
