A prominent figure of classic Hollywood cinema, Colbert starred in over sixty movies and was among the highest-paid actresses during the 1930s and 1940s. In 1938 and 1942, she was the highest-paid actress in the United States. Colbert is also noted for her role as socialite Ellie Andrews in the romantic comedy, It Happened One Night (1934), for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress.. Photographic Image.
