Original black-and-white photograph showing Vern Culbertson's Orchestra performing on stage. The orchestra may be performing at the UC Berkeley as University of California flags are visible. Photo has a matte texture. Printed on back is the photography studio's stamp in purple ink which reads, "Commercial Photo & View Co., Paradise Gardens Building, 129 Twelfth Street, Oakland - California." No date, circa 1940s-1950s. 13 1/4" x 8 1/2." Photo is clean and intact overall but has slight age toning, a faint brown stain on the left side on front, and a few wrinkles and small closed tears at the edges (the most pronounced wrinkle measures 2)." A Good copy. This photo shows Vern Culbertson's Orchestra. Twelve men make up the orchestra. Culbertson is perhaps the man at the center who appears to present the orchestra to viewers. Three of the musicians on the left play wind instruments, perhaps oboes. At the center is one musician who plays the tuba, a harpist, a pianist, two who play the violin or other string instruments, and a drummer. One musician on the right plays the trombone. The two rightmost musicians play the trumpet. A large shiny curtain is drawn which, along with other ornate stage curtains, constitutes most of the photo's composition. Several flags with "California," "University of California," and "UC" decorate the stage.. Photographic Image. Book Condition: Collectible-Good. Binding: No Binding
