Vertical fold line at the center. A few faint spots on a few pages. Front cover shows a decorative illustration of the Mardonough Theatre in Oakland, California. This program is for Wednesday evening, April 19, 1896. The following will be performed: "One Grand Concert by the Famous Violinist, Rivarde; Assisted by Aime Lachaume, Pianist, William Keith, Baritone, and a Grand Orchestra," which includes covers of Weber's "Overture--Oberon," Schumann's "Etudes Symphoniques," Gounod's "Solo--Dio Possente--Faust," Mendelssohn's "Violin Concerto," Wagner's "Women's Procession to the Minister (Lohengrin)," Chopin's "Polonaise (A Flat)," Schumann's "Solo-Lieder," Wieniawski's "Airs Russes," and Glinka's "Finale--IV. Act 'La Vie pour le Czar.'" Achille Rivarde (1865-1940) was a British violinist born in the United States who worked mostly in London and other parts of Europe. Rivarde studied under Jose White Lafitte, Felix Simon, and Henryk Wieniawski. He made his debut in London in 1894 and his American debut in 1895 at Carnegie Hall. In 1899, Rivarde became a professor at the Royal College of Music. Pages 12 and 14 show a map of seating for the dress circle and balcony. There are "hints to patrons" in the front about hours, amenities, seating, and the like. Most of this program has advertisements (many of which are illustrated) for upcoming performances at the Mardonough Theatre and miscellaneous businesses. Products or businesses advertised include anything from wine and restaurants to clothing, furniture, and bicycles. The front and back covers include ads for the Mountain Wine Depot and Overman Wheel Company, respectively. A couple pages include some illustrated jokes or comic panels.
