Cummins describes her life and travels in Illinois, Ohio, Missouri, Yellowstone Park, Grande Ronde Valley, the Cascades, and Oregon. She describes the arduous journey with her family from the Midwest to Oregon, which, while interspersed with episodes of respite, also had moments of tragedy.
