Dated March 16, 1871. Letter written in ink on 9 7/8" x 8" paper. Some pencil writing on the letter. Charles D'Urban Morris (1827-1886) was a professor of Latin and Greek, teaching at John Hopkins University for a good part of his career. This letter is written to Howard Crosby (1826-1891) and is in reply to Crosby's request to Morris to evaluate Crosby's son's ability to write in English (as opposed to writing in Latin or Greek). Morris's answer is that Crosby's son, Ernest, may need more training. Ernest Howard Crosby (1856-1907) went on to a life as a social reformer and writer.. Manuscript.
