Alexandra Danilova (1903-1997) was a Russian-born American prima ballerina who danced with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and appeared on Broadway. Danilova and fellow ballet dancer Frederic Franklin became two of the leading stars of the Ballet Russe and led the cast of this version of Danses Concertantes. Danses Concertantes is the name of more than a dozen ballets set to a musical score of the same title composed by Igor Stravinsky. The 1944 version of Danses Concertantes was choreographed by George Balanchine (1904-1983), who co-founded the New York City Ballet and is considered "the father of American ballet."
