DE BENNEVILLE, James S : GEORGE BRANDT

DE BENNEVILLE, James S. GEORGE BRANDT. Boston: The Christopher Publishing House, (1941). Octavo. [iv],9-178 pp. In a worn publisher's binding of orange cloth with gilt-stamped title to spine and upper board. The book is sunned at spine, showing general light soiling overall, and the bottom fore-corner of the upper board is discolored; but it is clean within and a sound copy overall. Ink ownership stamp of Peter L. de Benneville on ffep. A scarce title, this posthumously published novel is not recorded on the OCLC. De Benneville was a medical doctor in the Philadelphia area, primarily known for his important translations of traditional Japanese tales, several collections have just recently been re- published. In any event GEORGE BRANDT, probably self-published and unheard of in the marketplace, is a slangy and breathless novel of human entanglement. Quite well written.
