Frontispiece with tissue overlay, plus illustrative plates throughout, 469 pages. Gilt to top edge; untrimmed fore-edge and bottom edge (to give book a quality look), Condition: Extensive soiling, darkening, a few black marks and several discoloration marks to binding, two lightly bumped corners (and showing a bit). First hinge cracked, but holding tight. Former owner's name stamped on first pastedown endpaper and handwritten along with name of book and number on rear pastedown endpaper. A few page tears to preliminaries, several light creases to pages in text block. Scattered soiling marks and foxing to pages. Gilt soiled at top edge, else overall book is Good. [Note: This is an old, turn-of-the-century book published in a very light/pale binding which shows all the soiling, handling, and wear because of its light color.] No bookplates, stickers, or writing in text. Text is clear, readable. Plates are vivid. Not a former library book or facsimile. The author, Thomas Dixon (1864-1946), propagated ideas of white supremacy. He served as a Baptist minister in Raleigh, N.C; Boston; and New York City. His first novel was this book, The Leopard's Spots.
