Its pursuer is Sir Peter Beamish, a rich bachelor, a butterfly collector, a man set comfortably in his ways and armed with a telescopic camera with which to 'catch his prey. In a slight fit of pique he reports two hippies to the police for stealing peaches from the wall of his garden. Their revenge is horrific and vicious - and he determines to fight his own private 'war' against people of such extraordinary and causal ferocity. He finds them - and he finds a beautiful woman running from them in terror. She will tell him nothing, though they have strangled her pet dog as part of their fun. Nothing makes sense - until Peter encounters the whole 'Manson'-like group in their hill caves, and learns the degree of savagery they contemplate and execute, almost an ultimate act of crazed vice. This mystery novel moves at a tremendous pace, with scenes of mounting terror and tension swiftly following the placid opening. Peter's growing attachment to Rhona, the woman he had met fleeing in terror, joins them together in their fight to match and escape a vicious gang. Douglas Orgill is well known for the unusual character and quality of his previous crime novels, of which The Astrid Factor was the most recent. He joins our list with a most original and exciting story.. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover.
