First edition. A presentation copy, identified as No. 1 [from an edition of circa 44 copies] and inscribed: "Robert Rawstorne d.d. E.A.B., Eton July 1926". Slim 8vo. 35pp. Half morocco, gilt lettered at the spine with two raised bands, marbled endpapers and a gilt top edge. Some quite light spotting throughout. A very good copy. A dedicatory verse precedes various poems, sonnets, rhymes and Latin translations, plus a ten-page dialogue. Laid-in is a five-part manuscript poem also by Bell which references the recipient of his inscription. Edward Allen Bell, brother of the Bishop of Chichester, was educated at Westminster and Oxford, and later was a master at Giggleswick School (he penned a history of the school in 1912). He taught history at Eton for several years before moving on to become the headmaster of St. Bees School in 1926. This selection of his verse was "Collected and printed as a Leaving Book to his Pupil Room and three other Eton friends on his departure from Eton for St. Bees, Cumberland".. Book.
