Sendak's picture book has evolved considerably in the course of its successive artistic transformations, with Sendak's permission and involvement. Sendak wrote the libretto for Oliver Knussen's opera, "Where The Wild Things Are" (1980). Now, again with his blessings, it is a major Hollywood film and an intriguing Dave Eggers novel.
