This is the last volume of the four and this copy is a 2nd imp (March 1942) published the same year as the 1st edn,and stapled as opposed to sewn in the first state.] VG.No owner inscptn.Pale cream yapped wraps and black ink printed lettering to upper wrap,with negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners, slight ageing/toning to edges and spine/ backstrip - as usual/normal - and both the front+rear covers are minimally and sporadically foxed/spotted.Closed tear towards head of spine/ backstrip and a small nick with loss,to foot of same.Contents bright,tight,clean with no foxing /spotting to pale grey chain-laid paper pages, and clean,non-rusted staples internally.Top, bottom and fore-edges of first 2 signatures are trimmed,except for the first two front fore-edges,fore+bottom edges of the 3rd and 4th signatures are also untrimmed.8vo wraps,7-16pp [paginated] plus [unpaginated] blank,half-title+ title pages. Little Gidding is the manor in Huntingdonshire that was the destination of poets' pilgrimages, as the site where Nicholas Ferrar founded an Anglican religious community in the mid-17th century. Eliot was a much-honoured figure at the time of his death (1965);the Nobel Prize for Literature and the Order of Merit were both awarded to him in the same year,1948.
