With twenty-eight colour plates, each with a captioned protector, and a further twenty-one sketches in the text. A little darkening to the backstrip cloth, and a touch of wear to several extremities. Some spotting to several preliminary and concluding leaves. Beautifully scripted presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, the lettering in black and red, alongside a pasted black and white image and a small convent library inkstamp. Very good. No dust wrapper, possibly as issued. Delightfully illustrated extracts from the author's travel diary, recounting adventures in Kerry and County Mayo, Cairo, the Upper Nile, Alexandria, Cape Colony, Tuscany, Sienna, Perugia, Vesuvius, and Rome, with a printed dedication to the author's sister, Alice Meynell. Quite uncommon. Elizabeth Butler (née Thompson) was a noted military artist who specialised in painting scenes from British military campaigns and battles including the Crimean War and the Napoleonic Wars.. Book.
