Signed by Author(s)416 pages (complete). The book tells the story of the 4th President of South Africa, Thomas Francois Burgers. Wildly popular at first, Burgers's ambitious plans during his presidency left him personally insolvent and very unpopular in the eyes of the public. He died at the age of 47 and was eventually buried in the Heroes Acre cemetery in Pretoria, South Africa. This is a beautiful leather-bound book with an impressive character. The front boards are decorated with an embossed and gold gilt impression of the Coat of Arms of the old Transvaal province in South Africa. The gilt is in overall good condition and has faded minimally. Where it has faded it adds only to the character of the book. The boards of the book are somewhat marked and rubbed. The top corner of the front-board is slightly knocked. There are two small tears on the hinge of the spine. Internally the book is clean, with the text remaining clear and crisp. A copy and discussion of the Transvaal's National Anthem has been laid in. The book is signed and warmly inscribed by a previous owner on the front end page. The author has also signed the book on the title page. The front and back hinges of the spine has cracked and lifted on the inside and has been carefully repaired. The binding in now strong, firm and secure.. Book Condition: Fair. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: No Jacket Click here for full details of this book, to ask a question or to buy it on-line.
