First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 331pp. Green cloth lettered in gold at the spine. With a frontispiece and five plates of seven captioned photographs. Top edge lightly dust soiled, and the edges lightly spotted, with some further spotting to the upper margin of the first dozen leaves, and to several unprinted concluding leaves, to a little further spotting to very occasional leaves. A very good copy in the splendid pictorial Cerne Abbas Giant dust wrapper designed by Frank Dobson "with acknowledgements to the Shell poster"; the wrapper is non-price-clipped but with a sliver of loss from the head of the spine panel, which only just impacts the lettering, and with a touch of chafing and toning. Laid-in is a black and white postcard of the Cerne Abbas Giant, and a twelve-page stapled pamphlet on Maiden Castle by R.E.M.Wheeler (published by HMSO as part of the 'Ancient Monuments and Historic Buildings' series, 1951). The pamphlet quite lightly spotted and with a 'Dorset County Museum, Dorchester' inkstamp to the base of the front wrapper.
