Heavy paper stock pages feature beautiful borders of decorative designs/illustrations. Condition: Binding reflects aging, including age toning, soiling, scattered discoloration spots, wear to corners (some showing a tad), some rippling of cloth on top cover, light fraying/short tears to top/foot of spine, edge wear, darkening/tanning of spine. Joints and hinges are tight, not cracked or torn. On first free endpaper: Two gift inscriptions, one 1856 another dated 1908 (the latter is a warm, touching inscription). Partial crack to gutter at page 1, major cracks/openings of gutters at pgs. 48/49 and 64/65, several signatures lifting out of binding, i.e., holding on with partial sewing. The expected age toning, light staining/soiling, foxing, and some fading and creases. Overall Good. Pages virtually free of tears - text is clear and readable. Illustrations are clear and in Very Good condition. Free of bookplates and stickers. Free of writing in text. Not a facsimile.
