Condition: Rebound with original cloth of covers and spine strip, all professionally affixed to newer binding. New endpapers. Small chip to foot of original spine strip and to original back cover (plus some wear and rubbing to that original back cover). Very good provenance (beginning with inscription on one of the front blanks dated March 30, 1850, which is torn/chipped, so rebinding process included backing original leaf to new leaf); another previous owner signature on second front blank; a bookplate of another former owner on first pastedown endpaper; and a card laid in by another former owner explaining where book was purchased and its value, circa. 1965. Age darken binding, scattered foxing/old damp-humidity stains/periodic old insect spots. Several pages have creases. A few old notations and writing in margins. Edges darken (darker on top edge due to old dust settling). Else overall Very Good. Binding tight, no cracks or tears to hinges. Pages are very readable, no tears. Not a former library book. Book presents the history of Virginia, including answering questions such as who baptized Pocahontas; when did Africans first arrive in Virginia; and whose last will and testament made provision for Virginia's first free school.
