Buy this book on-line GARTH, Samuel : The Dispensary. A PoemJohn Nutt, London, 1700
A very good copy indeed in early 19th century (ca.1800-1810) 1/4 red calf, moire-patterned green cloth, the spine rubbed, some light splashmarks to the cloth, contents clean and tight. The engraved frontispiece is present, with a small wormhole in a blank area lower free corner: this wormhole extends through the first few leaves in the blank corner with no loss of text. Early ownership signature of J C Hyde verso frontispiece. The names of the anonymously referred to personalities in the poem have been supplied in ink throughout the text, prsumably by Hyde; a passage omitted from this edition has been copied in ink on the rear end-paper. A celebrated satire, advocating free dispensaries for the poor, and ridiculing the opposition to this. Click here for full details of this book, to ask a question or to buy it on-line.
