Engravings by G.A. Muller after A. Altomonte.

This plate book commemorates the crowning of Austrian empress Maria Theresa in 1740. It was probably given later as a gift to those in attendance at the banquet. She was the only female monarch of the Habsburg dynasty, and also its last ruler--with her son’s succession to the throne, the dynasty became styled Habsburg-Lorraine., Vinet 681; Graesse VII:406; Hiler 510; Berlin Kat. 2893.
