First Edition. The author's extremely scarce first book, never reprinted in this form. A near fine copy (slight wear head spine) ina vg++ d.w., shallow chipping spine ends and corners, small triangular chip top rear corner, some general edgewear with very shallow occasional chipping mostly to top margins, some light creasing lower front panel. SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper, in the dull blue ink which characterises her early signatures. An attractive copy of this scarce book.

The author's first book, never reprinted in this form. A fine copy in a vg++ d.w., head spine worn with very light chipping, foot spine light wear. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR on fep "Nadine Gordimer. University Towns Festival April 1955" in her characteristic early dull blue ink. Most signed copies on the market at present are recent signed to order since she became a Noberl laureate, and early signed copies are comparatively rare.

A near fine copy (slight fading to spine through wrapper) in a vg+ d.w., spine ends chipped, 1cm at foot, small chips to front free corners, flapfolds worn with some small holes, some other mild wear to extremities but in general a superior example of the late Nobel Laureate's scarce first book. This has never been reissued: some of the stories formed the basis of her first international (USA) appearance three years later as "Soft Voice of the Serpent". SIGNED in black ink on fep.
