UK,slim 8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,2nd state. [Same year as 1st edn,1st issue of 1971,but the 2nd state,Line 4 on p.177 reads J. M. Barrie,as opposed to first state reading Sir John Barrie,to some 1,000 copies before the correction.] NFINE/VG++.No owner inscrptn, but a price-clip to dw/dj - design by Michael Harvey.Bright and reasonably clean,purple/mauve background with white+ yellow lettering to front, white, paler yellow (faded?) and pale pink lettering to spine/backstrip,rear panel without any lettering; with neglgible shelf-wear, bumping, creasing to edges and corners - no major nicks, tears or splits present but very gentle, miniscule rubbing to all corners' tips and to head+foot of spine/ backstrip too.Top edge cpoloured with some minimal fading towards headband area - a not uncommon fault - fore-edges bright and clean without blemish; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - no intentional dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners other than an accidental, tiny corner tip crease to lower corner of pp127/8 - else appears unread, apart from my own collation.Publisher's bright, crisp, clean and unblemished,sharp-cornered, original, plain dark green cloth boards with bright, crisp, blocked gilt lettered spine/ backstrip and immaculate plain white sets of endpapers.UK,slim 8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn, 2nd state,9-215pp [paginated] includes 11 chapters each with a varying number of sections; plus [unpaginated] 2pp blanks after front free endpaper,half-title+title pages,a dedication with blank verso,an epigram (Kierkegaard),author's preamble preceding the first chapter, and to the rear 6pp blanks.
Visually the exterior appearance is still acceptable for a book of it's age,and even internally, the book is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation. It is only the exterior faults described that prevent an overall higher grading.
The first book of his autobiography.
