Circa 1900, sized 6 x 9.5 inches, on heavy gloss paper, generally very clean and bright. The author, b. County Clare, Ireland, September 9, 1842, was a lawyer, politician, and Congressman from Wisconsin. He migrated with his parents to Canada in 1847, to Ohio in 1851, and in 1856 to Wisconsin, settling in Newport, Sauk County. During the Civil War he served in Company E, 12th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, 1861 - 1865, and rose to the rank of First Lieutenant. In 1865 he returned to Wisconsin and settled in Kilbourn City (Wisconsin Dells) where he read law and was admitted to the bar in 1868. He set up a practice in Kilbourn City and was also cashier of the Kilbourn City Bank, 1871 - 1876. A Republican, he was state assemblyman from Sauk County in 1876, and after leaving the legislature, he moved to Eau Claire, where he continued his law practice. Griffin was State Senator from 1880 - 1881, and in 1894 was elected to fill a vacancy in Congress. He was twice elected to a regular term, and served from November, 1894, to March, 1899. After leaving Congress, he was appointed to the state tax commission and served until his death.. Print. Book Condition: VG.
