This delightful and unconventional miscellany of Suffolk life and letters, scenes and sketches, arts and crafts, has been produced to mark the Royal Progress through Suffolk of Her Majesty The Queen and H.R.H. Prince Philip on July 21,1961 - the first official visit of a reigning monarch to the County for some four hundred years.
The book is the co-operative venture of a group of authors, artists, photographers, printers and bookbinders, all living and working in the County of Suffolk today. All concerned with the book have made a gift of their work and services,as a gesture of loyalty to The Queen upon this notable occasion.
This book is of particular note to GILES collectors/completists as he,along with the dw/dj design/illustration,has contributed a double-page b/w cartoon relating to a sea-faring extract and a small b/w cartoon related to a cricketing article by another contributor. He,along with other noted contributors,is credited as a native of the county - John Hadfield, Adrian Bell,Hammond Innes,A. J. Forrest, George Stewart Evans, Norah Lofts,Sir Francis Meynell etc.,etc amongst others. [All the proceeds from the sale of this book was given as a Suffolk contribution to King George's Jubilee Trust,a fund for the welfare of the younger genertion,of which Her Majesty is the Patron.]
