Head of spine is slightly worn. Excerpt from the Preface: "This is a collection of ten Christmas Stories, some of which have been published before. I have added a little essay, written on the occasion of the first Christmas celebrated by the King of Italy in Rome. The first story has never before been published." Edward E. Hale (1822-1909) was an American author, historian, and Unitarian minister who advocated for the abolition of slavery and promoted other social reforms such as popular education. Felix "F. O. C." Darley (1822-1888) was an American illustrator who had a prolific career and illustrated many nineteenth-century books by acclaimed authors such as Charles Dickens, Mary Mapes Dodge, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Washington Irving, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Harriet Beecher Stowe..
