Hays (1879-1954) was an American politician, U.S. Postmaster General, and the first chairman of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA). The 1930 Motion Picture Production Code was informally named after Hays as the Hays Code (although the Code was authored by Catholic priest Daniel A. Lord). The purpose of the Code was to set moral guidelines for Hollywood cinema self-censorship. From 1922-1945, Hays was President of the MPPDA and was tasked with "cleaning up" the image of the Hollywood movie industry.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine.
