"1st edition. Original khaki cloth bevelled boards pictorially stamped in silver and gilt on the spine and upper panel. With 12 full-page illustrations by H. J. Draper and a map of France. 32pp catalogue of Books for Young People at the rear. Contents clean and tightly bound without dust-jacket. The cloth is a little rubbed at the corners and head and tail of spine which also show a couple of small nicks. Presentation book plate on the ffe - the book was presented by Uncle Toby of the Dicky Bird Society at Christmas 1893. The Dicky Bird society was initiated by the editor of the Children's Corner in the Newcastle Weekly Chronicle in 1876. He referred to himself as Uncle Toby after the character in Laurence Sterne's 'Tristram Shandy' who was considerate to all creatures, even those who annoyed him. The image which was used to illustrate the Children's Corner was that of Uncle Toby with children clustering around his knees, and it is this image which appears on the book plate. Overall a nice copy." Click here for full details of this book, to ask a question or to buy it on-line. Bibliophile Bookbase probably offers multiple copies of "Henty, G.
