Hotel Benton was commissioned by the town of Corvallis after several of its hotels closed during the early twentieth century. The commission called for a modern hotel. The style of Hotel Benton was chosen to be Italian Renaissance Revival, and it was completed in 1925 by the architectural firm, Houghtaling & Dougan.
