a Contents list/table,and 2pp blanks at rear. About 1/2" spine/backstrip at base is
missing otherwise VG++.Issue points: vertical distance between George Adamson's name to Publisher's FABER AND FABER is 10.4cm and pp33 has the star beneath poem's title,pointing down. B/w illus by GEORGE ADAMSON,who also did the illustrated boards.Author's 3rd book and a bright,tight copy of Hughes's first children's book.

George Worsley Adamson,b.1913,worked as George Adamson.Born in New York City and son of a master car-builder.He began his education there. Later studied at Wigan Mining and Technical College,Lancs,at Wigan School of Art and at Liverpool School of Art.Served in the RAF during WW2 and worked as an official war artist for several months.Lecturer in engraving and illustration at Exeter School of Art (1946-53). Had subsequently worked as a freelance designer, illustrator and humourist; also a printmaker (drypoint and aquatint),designer of posters and animated films,and children's author.
Adamson had contributed to 'Punch' since 1939, including coloured covers,and has illustrated over 85 books in many fields - BBC publications, poetry,humour,and educational and children's books.Devoting much time and attention to the initial design of his work,he then draws rapidly with a characteristically economical and elegant line.Passages of closely observed detail (based on memory,drawings from nature,or photographs) are frequently balanced with blank or sparsely drawn areas.Elected ARE (1981); MSIAD.
