[1929] Pamphlet. Size: About 3½-inches wide x 5½-inches high. 12 pages. Condition: Former owner's name written on top cover; lightly age toned; else overall Very Good. This is a scarce pamphlet regarding the Jackson Friendly Home in Jackson, Michigan. In January 1878, a group of citizens decided a home for the elderly women was needed in Jackson. It was established as the Home for the Friendless, which began in a two-room house on Oak Hill Ave. At the time, it cared for two residents. In June 1908, the home was renamed The Jackson Friendly Home. In 1929, the present home on North St. cared for 43 residents. This brief, but comprehensive pamphlet addresses the early officers/board members, their mission, the financial details, the endowment fund, bequests, and memorial rooms. Several vintage photos show the exterior of the building, a bedroom, and the dining room. Very historical, collectible piece.
