Original letter handwritten on light beige lined paper. Signed, "S. G. Jerrard." Datelined November 12, 1860 in West Levant, Maine. 7 3/4" x 10." One page. Letter is very clean and intact except for slight wrinkling, a few horizontal and vertical fold lines, and slight age toning. A Very Good copy. Simon G. Jerrard (1828-1909) was a military officer of the United States Army. He is perhaps best-known for organizing and commanding the 22nd Maine Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. The 22nd Maine Infantry was mustered into service October 10, 1862 and mustered out on August 14, 1863. The regiment later became an attachment of the XIX Corps during the war. As part of the XIX Corps, Jerrard and the 22nd Maine Infantry fought during the Battle of Irish Bend (April 14, 1863) and the Siege of Port Hudson (May 22-July 9, 1863) in Louisiana. Jerrard left the Army in 1863 and went on to have a long political career in Maine. In this letter, Jerrard writes to David Sanders, Esq. about a legal matter involving a house owned by Levi Daughty in Greenville. Jerrard establishes that he had "placed an attachment on the Levi Daughty house in Greenville to secure the payment ...." Jerrard expresses concern that he has not heard anything further on the matter and that his own attorney, Paul S. Merrill, is not responding either. Jerrard concludes the letter with a request to Sanders, "If you will inform me what disposition has been made of the property with such facts in the case as have come to your knowledge you will greatly oblige your friend and Brother Mason, S.
