Original color map of the Crieff and Perth district in Scotland. Most of the map is in black-and-white. Light green represents bodies of water. Raised areas have a light pink-orange color. A pink-orange and white bar in the right margin indicates elevations or depths in feet. Dark orange lines show driving and cycling routes. No date, circa 1890s. 19 1/2" x 6 1/2." Map has vertical fold lines and a horizontal fold line, which may be original. Formerly in a book, a possible folding map. Map is very clean and intact except for a few wrinkles, slight age toning, and a split along one of the folds measuring 3/4" from bottom edge (mostly limited to margin). A Very Good copy. Map shows the towns of Crieff and Perth and surrounding areas. Cities, routes, and natural features are shown. Tiny trees indicate green spaces. Scale of distance in miles, neatline, and legend for routes included. A map by John Bartholomew & Son, a mapmaking and publishing company that was founded by John Bartholomew (1805-1861) in 1826. John was succeeded by his son and grandson of the same name, John Bartholow (1831-1893) and John George Bartholomew (1860-1920). The company began as a publisher of maps and other printed materials such as checkbooks and election books. However, beginning around 1890, John Bartholomew & Son shifted its focus to maps and became well-known for its relief maps. Published by the famous publishing company, A. & C. Black, which was founded in 1807 by Adam Black (1784-1874) in Edinburgh. A. & C. Black is still in business to this day.. Map. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
