Original color topographic map of the Kingussie district in Scotland. Map has varying shades of orange and has darker orange lines denoting driving and cycling routes. No date, circa 1890s. 12 1/2" x 6 1/2." Map has vertical fold lines, which may be original. Formerly in a book, a possible folding map. Map is very clean and intact except for a few wrinkles, slight age toning, and some of the text being cut off in bottom margin (part of scale of distance and legend for routes affected and publisher's information may be missing). A Very Good copy. Map shows the town of Kingussie and surrounding area. A bar with varying shades of orange correspond to elevations or depths in feet. Cities, routes, and natural features are shown. Among the natural features are Glen Tromie, Glen Feshie, and Loch Insh. Many of the geographic features are labeled. Scale of distance and neatline included. A map by John Bartholomew & Son, a mapmaking and publishing company that was founded by John Bartholomew (1805-1861) in 1826. John was succeeded by his son and grandson of the same name, John Bartholow (1831-1893) and John George Bartholomew (1860-1920). The company began as a publisher of maps and other printed materials such as checkbooks and election books. However, beginning around 1890, John Bartholomew & Son shifted its focus to maps and became well-known for its relief maps. Published by the famous publishing company, A. & C. Black, which was founded in 1807 by Adam Black (1784-1874) in Edinburgh. A. & C. Black is still in business to this day.. Map. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
