Circa 1900, sized 6 x 9.5 inches, on heavy plate paper, generally very clean and bright. The author, b. Union, Rock County, Wisconsin, attended Evansville Seminary, taught school, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin. He was admitted to the bar in 1871, practiced law in Portage for one year, and in 1872 established a practice in Madison. A Democrat, he was district attorney for Dane County, 1873 - 1877, and in 1882 was elected to Congress where he served one term, March, 1883- March, 1885. Unsuccessful in his bid for re-election, he returned to Madison and served as professor of law at the University of Wisconsin, 1885 - 1915. He was chairman of the state tax commission, and in 1920 he was elected to the state Supreme Court to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John B. Winslow. Jones was elected to the unexpired term in April, 1922, and served on the high court until 1926. Jones was the author of law texts and an autobiography, Reminiscences of Nine Decades.. Print.
