"The town of York, the infant capital of Upper Canada is in lat. 43 degrees 33 seconds! North and in long 79 degrees 20 seconds! west, exceedingly well situated in the township of the same name, on the north side of an excellent harbour. It is very regularly laid out with the streets running at right angles, and promises to become a promising town. The plot of ground marked out for it extends about a mile and a half along the harbour, but at the present the number of houses does not greatly exceed three hundred, the greatest part of which are built from wood. The public buildings are a government house, the house of assembly for the provincial parliament, a church, a court-house and a goal, with numerous stores and buildings for the various purposes of the government" Joseph Bouchette 1815.
Also the garrison York is depicted for the first time in any map., deVolpi, Toronto, plate 2
