First Edition. Original publisher's red cloth binding with gilt lettering on spine. Small gilt decoration of a roundel portrait of an elephant stamped on front cover (this version of the decoration has a swastika as part of the design which was used by Kipling as an Indian symbol of blessing). Original brown paper dust jacket with black lettering printed on front panel and spine included. Dust jacket protected in a Mylar sleeve. 5 1/2" x 8." 416 pages, complete. Pages are very clean and intact except for small spots of foxing limited to edges of text block. Covers are virtually pristine and intact except for almost imperceptible wear along extremities. Binding is tight. Corners of covers of sharp and not bumped. Dust jacket is clean and intact overall but has some browning and slight wear and bumping to corners and head and tail of spine.
