Frederick Henry Linton Jehne Townsend (1868 - 1920).Worked as F.H. Townsend,born in London. Studied at Lambeth School of Art where contemporaries included Leonard Raven-Hill, Reginald Savage,and Charles Ricketts.By the age of nineteen,he had built up a reputation as a versatile illustrator and pictorial journalist who enjoyed the challenge of difficult commissions.He contributed to many magazines during the 1890s and in 1905 became the first Art Editor of Punch.In this year too,he illustrated another of Kipling's work - 'They'. Townsend was also a painter and in later life became interested in etching. G.P. Jacomb-Hood recorded that he died suddenly on a golf course. He was a Member of the Chelsea Arts Club during the 1890s; elected ARE (1915).
