Revised edition. The book itself is shelf-rubbed, and has some slight staining on the front and back end pages. Two previous owner's signatures can be found on the front end page and the half-title page features a previous owners inscription, all in ink. The pages are otherwise clean and complete, and the binding is strong. The jacket is in poor condition. It is discoloured and foxed and there is a large chip out of the top left corner of the front which extends into the spine; legibility is not affected. It is very frayed and worn at the edges with multiple chips and tears. Preserved in cellophane, which restores some charm to the book.. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: Poor

First Edition. A fine copy in a vg+ d.w., spine ends and corners chipped. A very good inscribed presentation copy: "To Leontine Sagan, on your return & thanking you for the fine work you've done for the beginnings of our theatre and looking forward to the work you'll do in the future. Uys Krige Cape Town May '47". Leontine Sagan (1889-1974), trained under Max Reinhardt and established herself as an actress, film director and stage director in Europe in the 1920's and 1930's before emigrating to South Africa, where she was instrumental in founding the South African National Theatre. She was the doyenne of theatre in that country until her death in 1974.
