[KYRISS, Ernst & Howard M. Nixon]. FESTSCHRIFT ERNST KYRISS. Dem Bucheinbandforscher Dr. Ernst Kyriss in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt, zu seinem 80. Geburtstag am 2. Juni 1961 gewidmet von seinen Freunden. Stuttgart: Max Hettler Verlag, (1961). A festschrift issued in honor of the eightieth birthday of bookbinding historian Ernst Kyriss. This copy belonged to Howard M. Nixon, whose contibution "Baumgarten's Will" appears on p. 397, and contains many pencil annotations by him. Laid-in at the front is a hand-written note of thanks from Kyriss to Nixon, along with a photo of a bookshop window displaying the book, in the original mailing envelope. Also laid-in is a corrected galley proof of Nixon's review of the book for "The Library," a review of the book by Ilse Schunke, another contributor to the festschrift, and (between pp. 376-7) two rubbings of bindings. The articles are mostly in German but for a few contributions in English, French or Italian. Illustrated. 493,[3] pp. Quarto, publisher's brown cloth. Cloth shows light wear and has a small stain on lower board; but the book is clean and solid overall. An interesting copy with an excellent association and enclosures.
