First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 238pp. Brown cloth lettered and ruled in gold at the spine. Some toning to the lesser-quality paperstock, as is invariably the case, and with a small area of discolouration to the cloth at the head of the backstrip where the dust wrapper is defective. Former owner name neatly inked to the head of the front free endpaper. A very good copy in the uncommon dust wrapper, non-price-clipped but with a centimetre of loss from the head of the spine panel, several fractions of further loss from the corner tips, and a touch of fading, soiling and chafing. The author's Crete-based fourth novel, in-part inspired by the adventures of his friends Paddy Leigh Fermor and Xan Fielding. It was subsequently republished in 1958 as 'The Dark Labyrinth' (which was Durrell's preferred original title).. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover.
